The types of personal information we collect

AttoLife Ltd is an independent UK laboratory offering a range of scientific services, specialising in DNA testing for both court-directed and private purposes.

Assure DNA is a brand of AttoLife Ltd providing at-home DNA testing services to confirm biological relationships. We take great care to maintain confidentiality and security around all personal data we process.

We currently collect and process the following information:

  • Names, contact numbers, email and personal addresses
  • Payment card details
  • DNA samples (saliva cheek swabs)
  • Self-reported personal or health information from the tested person or their parent / guardian
  • Copies of identity documents, signatures, and documents evidencing parental responsibility
  • The nature of proposed and actual genetic relationships between tested individuals

How we get the personal information and why we have it

Most of the personal information we process is provided to us directly by you for the following reason:

  • Investigation of genetic relationships

Information may be supplied to us by:

  • Completion of an application form on our website
  • Email, telephone, or document upload

We use the information that you have given us in order to:

  • Produce a DNA Analysis Test Report

We may share this information with:

  • The nominated person and all test participants, including those with parental responsibility for any child tested
  • Third-party service providers who help us deliver our services (e.g. cloud storage, email providers). These providers only process data under our instruction and are bound by confidentiality and data protection agreements.
  • Any person or organisation you have explicitly consented to us sharing data with
  • Courts or law enforcement where legally required, after taking appropriate legal advice

Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the lawful bases we rely on for processing this information are:

  • Performance of a contract
  • Compliance with a legal obligation

How we store your personal information

Your information is securely stored electronically on our protected servers or in locked physical storage at our premises.

We retain personal data only for as long as necessary:

  • Up to 12 months for standard at-home DNA testing cases

Data is securely deleted or destroyed once it is no longer required.

You are not required to pay a fee to exercise your rights. We have one month to respond to any valid request.
