What is Assure DNA Sibling Testing from Home?

Our home Sibling DNA testing kit is designed to be used in the comfort of your own home. All participants sample themselves and return the swabs to the laboratory for testing.
Your detailed scientific report will be returned to you by email the very Next Working Day to when samples are received* (Free 1st Class sample kit postage included)
Accuracy of results in excess of 99.99%. A DNA test is the most accurate way to determine if two people are biologically related.
During a DNA Sibling Test, a number of markers (23 Loci) on different chromosomes are examined and compared. If two people are full siblings, approximately 50% of the DNA which is examined should be shared. If two people are half siblings, 25% of their DNA should be shared. It is important to note that in some cases, test results for the family relationships will be inconclusive. Inconclusive results occur when the genetic information shared between the potential siblings/relatives is common to that shared by the general population. In these circumstances there is insufficient genetic evidence unique to the individuals being tested to establish the relationship between them. It is not possible to predict the outcome of one of these tests until it is completed, and unfortunately because of the work involved we are unable to refund clients who receive an inconclusive result.
With all Sibling Tests there is a 1 in 5 chance that the results may come back as inconclusive. However, we can also involve the Mothers sample with this test at an no additional cost this will result in a 1 in 30 chance of an inconclusive test.

As with other biological sample procedures, consent is required before a sample of blood, saliva or hair is taken for analysis. Under the Human Tissue Act 2004 consent is also required (in England, Wales and Northern Ireland) for the use and storage of a sample to obtain scientific or medical information about an individual which relates to another person; this includes paternity testing. Please see www.bma.org Paternity testing for more information.
Each participant over the age of 16 years will need to consent for their DNA to be tested and will need to support this with a suitable copy of identification. For children under the age of 16, we will need signed consent for the test to take place from the mother, or person with parental responsibility for the child.
As a leading and reputable UK DNA testing provider, even if mother is not taking part in the testing, we will still require the biological mother or the person with parental responsibility to sign and consent for the tested children’s samples to be taken, analysed and stored as per our Code of Practice.
We will simply not accept or analyse any samples received without the written consent and agreed documentation of the participating party and/or the person legally responsible for the child.
*All samples must be received by 10am for results to be emailed the next day from 3pm
